He brought the hammerhead down onto the sheep’s skull; it fell in a smooth arc, like the pendulum of a clock compelling all men one second at a time towards the grave. e blow cracked the sheep’s head-bone, but did not stun it; as he had feared, he had not put enough strength behind it, and he paid the price as his maddened hurting victim shrieked and fought to break free.
